While this face
which is supposed to be a realistic rendering of King Tut's Face, is interesting, the casual reader might attribute more to this reconstruction than is appropriate. The key quote here is:
"Robin Richards, a facial rebuilding expert from University College London, scanned the features of people of the same age, sex, build and ethnic group as Tutankhamen to create an approximation of skin type, which was wrapped onto the 3D digital skull. "
And why shouldn't he look like that. forensic scientist do that all the times from skulls that have been found damaged and re-contruct models that are the same likeness of homicide victims, so why not the same with an intact, well preserved mummy?. you used the word supposed, and also "the casual reader my attribute more to this reconstruction than appropriate. like what may I ask? That Tut has broad nose and lips?...that he has black skin? If King Tut is supposed to look like that villain on the old "Batman" series then you are sadly mistaken. It may not look like him, but one thing for sure...they do have the color right. Nose and lips too.

Posted by: Leonard Baugh on October 2, 2002 09:20 AMHi Leonard, I understand your point of view. Was just a personal preference to be cautious about assumptions, especially about ancient topics.
Here's a post with some more opinions.
Hmm, link didn't show..here it is http://gnxp.blogspot.com/2002_10_01_gnxp_archive.html#85517286
Posted by: Heretic on October 8, 2002 04:11 AMThe render of Tut's suppose to give an idea of what he might have looked like, not an exact say or identification. Robin Richards didn't just wrap the skin over the skull, he did facial reconstruction of tissue and muscle which give you features like the chin and cheeks. The facial wrap is just suppose to be a closeness of Tut that can respectively reflect his skins type (color), and some features like lips and nose. In any case, you're not going to get any better then this right now. So take what you can get
Posted by: Josh on October 13, 2002 05:27 PMBelieve me, if the reconstruction had been white aquiline euro features, there would be no debates and insertion of doubts from the peanut gallery.
Is there no end to you people's insecurity; the world is changing and there is more than one view out there!!!

Posted by: Someone Special on February 28, 2003 01:37 PMThe main point is that the scientist have used the latest technology to reconstruct tut's face. Now since the truth about his color has been revealed, white people are begginig to make up lies about the face. Even the face of nefertiti came out to be a black woman. So since you whites claim to be so intelligent, face the the fact that the (ancient)Egyptians were black.
Posted by: montrel ellis on August 24, 2003 03:58 PMKing tut was egyptian, Egypt is in Africa, so he was african, therefore king tut was a black man, ALL the other pharaohs, and queens of Egypt was black, because they were Africans.
Posted by: oden Rossin on September 18, 2003 05:52 PMWhile it does seem to be true that the pharaohs of that all important 18th Dynasty (Tut and Nefertiti's Dynasty) had dark skin and while the Nubian pharaohs had, of course dark skin Pharoahs after Alexander the Great were probably white including the last Pharaoh--Cleopatra. It is also important to remember that other groups--black, white, and Asian used Egypt as a trading center--so there was a lot of mingling.
But people please! When are we going to raise up high some of the other advanced empires of Africa? The Empire of Mali in western Africa or the Kingdom of Ghana? Or the Kingdoms of the Sudan? Great Zimbabwe? These empires had amazing language advances, cultural advances, architectural advances, amazing amries, amazing treasures! Some of these kingdoms have been compared to the Roman Empire. Of course they don't teach these things in school, but it's about time we stop looking to the may-have-beens and look to what we know as Great Black Empires.
